A Birthday Weekend
My husband had a birthday and we decided to make it a week-end celebration. Friends and relatives came in from Cincinnati, Seattle, New York City, Miami, Phoenix, Houston, Austin and Kansas City. It was delightful. The weather was absolutely beautiful. My house filled up with nine house guests and the rest stayed in a local hotel, but on Saturday morning we had brunch at my house for twenty.
My sister helped me prepare the food. We served a beautiful fresh fruit salad, a green apple quinoa salad, baked hash browns, orange juice, Starbucks Morning Blend coffee and multigrain pancakes with maple syrup and brandied peaches (without the brandy). I hired a young man to cook the pancakes during the brunch, so they would be hot and fresh. Everyone seemed to love the food.
We had tables set up in the house as well as outside, so people ate and moved around and visited and ate and moved around some more. We were able to sit and relax, visit and watch the kids play.
It was great to have kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews, friends and dogs all having an enjoyable time!
A group of the guys left to go play golf, but the rest of us just sat around, visited some more, drank more coffee and continued to enjoy the morning.
Special thanks to my niece, photographer Amanda Wallace of Austin, for taking these lovely photos.
